Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister of State, V Muraleedharan, expressed strong condemnation of the practice of dowry during his visit to the home of Dr Shahana, a medical professional from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College who tragically took her own life due to dowry pressure. Muraleedharan emphasized that dowry itself is illegal and should never be demanded.

Speaking to the media after visiting Shahana’s residence, the Union Minister called for a reevaluation of the existing laws if there are inadequacies. He questioned the role of the police in protecting criminals and urged them to bring those responsible for such crimes to justice. Muraleedharan criticized the government for its failure in addressing these issues and stressed the need for accountability.

Highlighting the urgency of singling out dowry seekers, Muraleedharan criticized the government’s priorities. He remarked on ministers’ collective travels despite significant issues in the state. The minister urged the government to take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of the people of Kerala.
