Ernakulam: The High Court issued a ruling to blacklist contractors found charging exorbitant prices for food served to devotees visiting Sabarimala during the Mandalakala pilgrimage. The Division Bench, comprising Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice G. Girish, issued the directive to inspect Sannidhanam to curb overcharging practices. The court has mandated the collectors to ensure strict adherence to the predetermined prices for food items. Any instances of overpricing should be reported to local bodies, and the Devaswom Board should take action against the offenders.
The court heard a voluntary petition highlighting the issue of charging exorbitant prices for food to devotees. The government mentioned that the Legal Metrology Department conducts regular inspections to prevent overcharging. So, the court included the Legal Metrology Department as a party in the case.
