Ernakulam: The High Court criticised the government for its failure to provide pensions to Mariyakutty from Adimali. The court questioned the government about how she would sustain herself without this support. It also demanded an explanation from the government, including when the pension could be paid.
Following the government’s request for more time, the petition was adjourned for further consideration in the afternoon. The court’s severe criticism against the government is based on a petition filed by Mariyakutty following the suspension of widow pensions for five months.
Justice Devan Ramachandran, during a previous hearing, emphasised the immediate necessity of pension payments to Mariyakutty. The court asserted that if the pension isn’t provided, the government should cover Mariyakutty’s expenses for three months.
The High Court highlighted the government’s financial misallocation for other purposes while questioning its inability to allocate funds for Mariyakutty’s pension. The court said that the government has money to spend on unwanted things while constantly saying there are financial difficulties in the state.
