New Delhi: Health authorities have confirmed the presence of JN-1, a subtype of the Corona virus, in the country. The total number of reported JN-1 cases has reached 22, with 21 cases identified in Goa and one in Kerala.

Fortunately, health officials have reported that patients receiving treatment at home have prevented the formation of corona clusters, and infected individuals are on the path to recovery. The common symptoms observed in JN-1 cases include a sore throat and dry cough, without the presence of a fever. This particular virus is known to weaken the immune system and spread rapidly. Notably, JN-1 is a variant that was initially identified in the United States and has been rapidly increasing in China. The government has also issued a cautionary advisory for individuals arriving from abroad, urging them to exercise caution.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has reassured the public, stating that most new cases exhibit mild symptoms and recover without requiring significant medical treatment. The first case of JN-1 was reported in Kerala on December 8, where a 79-year-old woman reported mild symptoms and is currently in recovery. At the same time, 253 samples were tested this month due to suspicion.

Despite the rising number of Corona cases in the country, health authorities emphasise that there is no need to be worried, as 92 percent of infected individuals are at home, leading to a low rate of hospital admissions.
