Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the state of Kerala due to the formation of low pressure in the South-East Arabian Sea. The forecast indicates a likelihood of rain continuing until January 3, with moderate rainfall expected in South Kerala. The low-pressure system, currently moving in a west-northwest direction, is likely to intensify into a strong low-pressure system over the central part of the South Arabian Sea.

High waves measuring between 0.5 and 1.3 metres are forecasted along the Kerala coast today. As a precautionary measure, fishermen and coastal residents are advised to stay vigilant. The concern extends to the southern Tamil Nadu coast, where a rough sea is anticipated. Residents in these areas have been advised to relocate to safe places, and fishing boats are recommended to be secured.

Wind speeds of 45 to 65 kilometers per hour (km/hr) are expected along the Kanyakumari coast, while the South Arabian Sea may experience winds ranging from 40 to 55 (km/hr). The IMD forecasts the possibility of strong winds and rain on January 2 and 3.
