KANNUR: The Kannur police have filed a case against four SFI leaders, including K Anusree, the Kerala state SFI President, for burning a 30-ft tall effigy of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan at Payyambalam Beach on December 31, 2023, around 6:45 pm. The incident occurred while a group of SFI leaders, accompanied by Anusree, Vyshnav Mahendran, Sanjeev, Vishnu Prasad, and other SFI members, raised slogans against the Governor during a New Year celebration where a large crowd had gathered in an unsafe manner.
Following this, ABVP leaders criticized the police for not taking legal action against the unlawful assembly and burning of the effigy using petrol in a public place on the New Year eve, posing a danger to the public.
ABVP members also blamed the police team present at the New Year celebration for not stopping the SFI’s actions, citing fear of the ruling CPI(M) party.
Later, Kannur police filed charges under sections of the IPC, including those for unlawful assembly and rioting against the SFI leaders.
