Kollam: With just two days remaining for the 62nd Kerala School Arts Festival, the city of Kollam is entering its final stages of preparation for the school Kalolsavam, scheduled to commence on January 4. The Director of General Education will hoist the flag at the main stage near Ashramam Maidanam at 9 am, marking the official beginning of the festival. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will then inaugurate the Kalotsavam at 10 am on the same day, as announced by Education Minister V Sivankutty.

To announce the arrival of Kalolsavam, a procession of students will take place today at 4 pm in Kollam city. Students bearing the gold cup for the Kalolsavam winners began their journey from Kozhikode. The gold cup is expected to reach the city tomorrow evening, traversing through various districts and receiving warm welcomes.

The festival’s first session on January 4 will showcase performances by differently-abled students, including Chenda Melam, Mayilattam, Singari Melam, and Kalaripayattu, starting at 9 am. Following this, at 10 am, renowned cine artist and dancer Asha Sharat will present a dance performance along with school students.

All programmes during Kalolsavam will adhere to a green protocol. The Kollam Ashramam Maidanam will serve as the primary venue for the festival, hosting all major competitions. However, competitions will be spread across 23 venues in various schools throughout the Kollam district. 14,000 talented students are set to compete in 239 categories.
