KAVARATTI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the previous Congress governments for adopting the policy of ignoring the islands and border areas. After independence, the Congress party ruled for several decades with the prime objective to develop their party, PM Modi said

Modi informed that many development projects were completed in Lakshadweep during the last 10 years and mentioned the creation of modern facilities, especially for the fishermen. He highlighted that Agatti island, Lakshadweep now has an airport as well as an ice plant. PM said, due to this new possibilities are being created for the seafood export sector and seafood processing, mentioning the initiation of tuna fish export from Lakshadweep, which has also paved the way for increasing the income of Lakshadweep fishermen.

Modi stated this while in Lakshadweep, inaugurating and laying the foundation for various projects worth ₹ 1,150 crore in the Union Territory.

Referring to the development projects, the Prime Minister mentioned the inauguration of a solar plant and aviation fuel depot to meet the electricity and other energy needs of Lakshadweep.

In 2020, I guaranteed you that you would get fast internet facility within the next 1,000 days. Today, the Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fibre Project has been inaugurated. Now, the internet in Lakshadweep will be available at 100 times higher speed,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Primary Health Care facility in Kalpeni and the construction of five model Anganwadi Centers (Nand Ghars) in the five islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti, and Minicoy. He also attended a review meeting regarding the island’s development.
