ERNAKULAM: The hearing involving the Head of the investigation team in the Malayalam actress assault case commences today. Reports indicate that DySP Baiju Paulose, the final witness in the case, will undergo examination. DySP Baiju Paulose was included in the investigation based on a statement by Malayalam movie director P Balachandrakumar.
At present, the witness examination phase of the case is in its concluding stage. Upon the completion of the DySP Baiju Paulose’s examination, the case will proceed to arguments. The Supreme Court has directed that the trials be completed before March 31, 2024.
A total of 260 witnesses have been examined in connection with the case. Director Balachandrakumar holds the record for being examined the most number of times, a total of 40.
According to police records, the incident related to the case took place on February 17, 2017, prompting the victim actress to file a complaint with the Kochi police. Actor Dileep was subsequently arrested by the Kerala Police on July 10, 2017, for alleged sexual harassment against the actress. He was later granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court on October 3, 2017.
