High Court to review plea challenging Lok Ayukta’s decision in Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund diversion case

Ernakulam: The High Court is set to examine a plea challenging the Lok Ayukta’s dismissal of the case related to the alleged diversion of funds from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). The division bench, led by the Chief Justice, will hear the petition filed by RS Sasikumar, who contends that funds were diverted from the relief fund without adhering to prescribed norms.

The Lok Ayukta, upon initial consideration of RS Sasikumar’s complaint, rejected the petition, citing a lack of evidence supporting the claim of fund diversion. Upa Lokayukta Babu Mathew P Joseph and Harun-Ul-Rashid clarified that the complaint did not fall under the jurisdiction of Lok Ayukta. There are accusations that the Lok Ayukta, which handled over a thousand cases during the first Pinarayi government, only addressed about a hundred cases during the second Pinarayi government. Citing these concerns, the petitioner has approached the High Court seeking a reevaluation of the case.
