Government sanctions Rs 5.92 lakh for new water tank at CM’s Cliff House amid financial crisis

Thiruvananthapuram: The construction of a new water tank at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Cliff House, has received approval, with a budget of Rs 5.92 lakh allocated from the government exchequer. The decision was made after public works officials determined that the existing water supply was insufficient.

Despite the government’s persistent claims of financial constraints, the trend of extravagant spending continues unabated. This recent approval adds to a series of expenses, with the government justifying each allocation. Notably, the government recently informed the court that even a pension of Rs 1600 is not feasible, yet expenses with questionable justifications persist.

Cliff House, serving as the hub for ministerial building maintenance, has witnessed significant expenditures, including Rs 42.50 lakhs for a cattle shed, Rs 3.72 lakhs for a dung pit, Rs 39.54 lakhs for security, and Rs 1.77 lakhs for tree branch cutting. The list of repairs and expenditures continues to grow, raising concerns amid the government’s purported financial crisis.
