THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In light of the Kerala government’s failure to manage the crowd at the Sabarimala Temple, the Tamil Nadu government has sent an official letter to the Kerala government seeking to ensure adequate facilities for the devotees. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena sent the letter to Kerala’s Chief Secretary Venu.
In December 2023 also, Tamil Nadu had demanded Kerala to take steps to avoid hardships for the devotees at Sabarimala Temple. This marks the second letter from Tamil Nadu, indicating that the Kerala government has failed in managing the crowd at the Sabarimala Temple.
Earlier, several devotees, including those from other states like Tamil Nadu, had expressed their discomfort and reported mistreatment by the Kerala government at Sabarimala Temple.
Several Kerala state BJP leaders also criticized the Kerala government for causing hardships to devotees.
However, Devaswom Board President PS Prashanth stated that while the Board has set a limit for virtual queue bookings for Sabarimala Temple darshan, it is not restricting any devotees from having darshan.
At the same time, reports suggest that the stoppage of spot booking facilities for Sabarimala Temple darshan and the ceremony of the Erumely Petta Thullal (ceremonial performance) have resulted in fewer devotees at Sabarimala today compared to recent days.
The Devaswom Board has set a limit for virtual booking of 50,000 devotees for January 14, 2024, and 40,000 for January 15, 2024 (Makaravilakku day).
