Alappuzha: Malayalam actor and BJP leader Suresh Gopi has paid off all the debts in the name of the family of Prasad, a paddy farmer in Thakazhi, Alappuzha district, who committed suicide in November after not getting a loan for farming. With this, the family has regained the property that had been mortgaged for the last three years.

Suresh Gopi transferred the full debt amount of Rs 3,70,000 to the deceased farmer’s wife, Omana, for paying off the loan.

Following this, Omana approached the Kerala State Development Corporation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with the acknowledgment of the paid loan challan. However, the officials rejected the release of the title deed (land ownership certificate) that Prasad had submitted as security to borrow the loan. Subsequently, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and BJP leaders staged a protest in front of the office against the incident.

Upon knowing about the matter, Suresh Gopi contacted K Radhakrishnan, the Kerala state Minister for the Welfare of SC/ST to take action. Following this, the Kerala state government informed to release the property and stop the foreclosure processes against the property that farmer Prasad had submitted as security for the loan.

Omana’s family has now regained the property that was mortgaged in April 2021 for a loan from the Kerala State Development Corporation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The property, mortgaged by Omana in April 2021 to obtain a loan amount of Rs 60,000 from the Kerala State Development Corporation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, has now been released and returned to the family.

The family had repaid a total of Rs 15,000 for the loan, but for the last 11 months, they were unable to pay any amount, and the corporation issued a foreclosure process notice stating that if they fail to repay an amount of Rs 17,600 within a week, the property will be subjected to the foreclosure process.

When the news came to light, an anonymous industrialist from Mumbai paid the amount, saying that considering it as his gift for Suresh Gopi’s marriage. Now, the remaining full amount has also been paid and the family get back the property with support from Suresh Gopi.
