Thiruvananthapuram: The budget session of the Legislative Assembly which starts on 25th of this month will last till 27th of March. There will be no assembly session from February 6 to 11 in view of the Delhi strike and UDF statewide campaign march.

On February 8 Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, cabinet ministers and LDF MLAs are conducting a one-day strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi to protest against the neglect of the Centre towards Kerala.

The UDF is conducting a statewide campaign march from February 9 to 25. Earlier, in a letter to the Speaker, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan had informed that the KPCC had already decided to organise a statewide political march from February 9 to 25 and stressed that his participation and that of other UDF MLAs in the march was mandatory.

Therefore, to ensure the participation of the full quorum in the assembly session, the Kerala government which is preparing to convene the budget session of the state assembly from January 25 to March 27, is giving the session a break from February 6 to 11. Though it is reported that the Kerala Assembly session is canceled from February 6 to 11 in view of the Delhi strike and the UDF strike, the speaker did not confirm this officially.

The 10th session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly will begin on January 25. Speaker AN Shamseer informed that the meeting will begin with the Governor’s policy address. On January 29, 30 and 31, the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s speech will be held.

Finance Minister KN Balagopal will present this year’s budget on February 5. The general discussion on the budget will be held from February 12 to 14. The subject committees will meet from February 15 to 25 to scrutinize the Finance Bill. From February 26 to March 20, the Finance Bill will be discussed in detail. Various amendment bills are also up for discussion in the House. If the Lok Sabha elections are announced during this period, the assembly session will be shortened.
