Thiruvananthapuram: Action has been initiated against Gunman Anil and security officer Sandeep, who were involved in assaulting protesters during the Nava Kerala Sadas. Notices were issued a month after the incident, with instructions for the accused to appear in court on Monday. The legal action comes in response to a court order mandating a case be filed against the security personnel.
The incident happened as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his team were en route to the Nava Kerala Sadas in Ambalapuzha constituency, Alappuzha. Protesters lined the roadside with black flags, expressing dissent through slogans. In response, the police intervened, confiscating the black flags and dispersing the protesters.
The gunman and bodyguards accompanying the Chief Minister’s car stopped and assaulted the demonstrators with lathis. The controversial incident prompted the police to file a case, adhering to the court’s directive.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan defended the actions of the security personnel, asserting that they were acting to protect his life. The Chief Minister’s remarks drew criticism, particularly from KSU (Kerala Students Union) activists who were part of the protest. The Chief Minister stated that he did not witness the assault by the gunmen, maintaining that the security personnel were acting to prevent any harm to him during the protest.
