Alappuzha: BJP welcomed the court verdict awarding the death sentence to all 15 Popular Front of India (PFI) terrorists accused in the murder case of OBC Morcha State Secretary Adv Ranjith Srinivasan.
BJP Alappuzha District President MV Gopakumar stated that the accused have eradicated a leader with a long-term developmental visions for the coastal region. Gopakumar added that the court’s judgment is appropriate, considering the incident not just as a political murder but an act of extreme terrorism. The extremist terrorists brutally killed Ranjith Srinivasan in his house in front of his mother and wife. Gopakumar considers the court’s verdict as a warning to the terrorists and expressed his satisfaction with the decision.
All the convicted accused, including Navas, Shemeer, Naseer, Zakeer Hussain, Shaji Poovathungal, Shernas Ashraf, Naizam, Ajmal, Anoop, Muhammed Aslam, Salam Ponnad, Abdul Kalam, Safarudheen, Munshad, Jaseeb Raja, and Shemeer, who were found guilty in the case, were sentenced to death by the Mavelikara Additional Sessions Court.
The incident took place on December 19, 2021, at Ranjith Srinivasan’s residence in Vellakkinar, Alappuzha, where armed PFI terrorists brutally murdered him in front of his wife and mother.
Alappuzha DYSP NR Jayaraj completed the investigation and filed the chargesheet in the case, presenting around 1,000 documents and more than 100 witnesses as evidence. Evidence such as fingerprints, scientific findings, CCTV footage, and route maps prepared with the help of Google Maps was also presented in the case.
Accused one to eight were found guilty of murdering Ranjith Sreenivasan in his house, while the 13th accused, Zakeer Hussain, the 14th accused, Shaji Poovathungal, and the 15th accused, Shernas Ashraf, were found guilty of conspiring to commit the crime. The court stated that all the accused were intentionally involved in the murder.
