Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram has sentenced Prasanna Kumar, the former City North Rationing Officer of the district, to four years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 in a bribery case involving a ration shopkeeper. The court’s decision was based on an incident that took place in 2014, where Prasanna Kumar was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the ration shopkeeper in Pattom.
The ration shopkeeper promptly reported the demand for a bribe to the vigilance authorities, leading to the intervention of the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Special Investigation Unit. The unit successfully apprehended Prasanna Kumar during the act, and the recent court ruling has found him guilty of the corruption charges.
