Ernakulam: In a setback to the LDF government in Kerala, the Kerala High Court has invalidated the government order appointing left-wing leader CN Raman as the commissioner of Travancore Devaswom. The court’s decision highlighted that the appointment was made without proper consultation with the High Court. The court pointed out that CN Raman lacks sufficient qualifications for the position and emphasized that he should not be entitled to retirement benefits.
CN Raman was appointed as the Travancore Devaswom Commissioner on December 14, 2023. Subsequently, a petition challenging his appointment was filed with the court. The High Court’s decision to annul the appointment comes on the day of CN Raman’s scheduled retirement.
During the Sabarimala pilgrimage season, the Devaswom Board faced daily legal challenges in court. The controversy surrounding CN Raman’s appointment has added another layer of complexity to the issues surrounding the Devaswom Board. Raman previously served as the State President of the CPI (M)-affiliated Travancore Employees Federation.
