Kozhikode: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut has imposed a one-year suspension on Vysakh Premkumar, a fourth-year B.Tech student in Electronics and Communication, for leading a protest on Ayodhya Prana Pratishtha Day.
On January 22, students, under the leadership of Vysakh Premkumar, engaged in a protest where slogans insulting Lord Ram were shouted, accompanied by a poster proclaiming ‘India is not a Ram Rajya.’ The Deans of Student Welfare took the decision to suspend Vysakh, citing the disruptive nature of the slogans that disturbed the peaceful atmosphere on the campus, leading to a conflict.
During the suspension period, Vysakh Premkumar is barred from entering the campus and hostels without prior permission. The dean’s order specified that Vysakh’s conduct had previously raised concerns, tarnishing the institute’s reputation, and he had been verbally warned on multiple occasions.
