Wayanad: The wild elephant, named Thanneer Komban, which had ventured into the city at Mananthavady, died earlier today after being tranquillized and relocated to Bandipur forest in Karnataka.
Last night, Thanneer Komban was transported to the elephant camp in Bandipur from Mananthavady. Unfortunately, the process of tranquilization seems to have taken a toll on Thanneer Komban’s health. Sources indicate that Thanneer Komban’s health condition had worsened after being subjected to tranquilization twice within a span of 20 days.
Furthermore, the elephant had sustained injuries the other day, and senior officials from the Karnataka Forest Department are set to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the elephant’s death.
Thanneer Komban, under 20 years, was captured on January 16 in the Hassan division of Karnataka. The elephant was ensnared in a drug trap, and a radio collar was attached to its neck; subsequently, it was relocated in the forest in Wayanad. The decision to use tranquillizers was aimed at ensuring the safety of both the elephant and the local population.
Today, a post-mortem will be carried out to ascertain the exact cause of the death of Thanneer Komban.
