Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is accused of attempting to conceal information about cases filed by the government against journalists in the state. CM Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the responses to questions posed by Vadakara MLA KK Rema in the Legislative Assembly regarding the details of such cases are currently unavailable but are being collected.
Critics argue that the CM’s response is an attempt to hide information about cases initiated by the Kerala government against journalists in the state. At present several cases are pending against journalists for their news reporting, including those from Janam TV.
Police have filed a case against Janam TV journalists, including reporter Reshmi Karthika and cameraman Nithin Raj, for covering the BJP’s Mahila Morcha’s protest march to the DGP’s official residence in Thiruvananthapuram. The Museum Police in Thiruvananthapuram registered a case under IPC sections 143, 147, 332, 353, 149, 447, and 120B, charging serious offenses, including conspiracy, unlawful assembly, trespassing, obstructing police duty, and attempting to incite a riot.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan mentioned that details from 2016 until the present are being collected.
Meanwhile, several political leaders from the BJP have criticized Pinarayi Vijayan for taking action against journalists reporting news. They have also labeled Pinarayi Vijayan as a fascist dictator.
