Thiruvananthapuram: In the fourth budget presentation of the second Pinarayi government, Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal emphasized that the K-Rail project has not been abandoned, even amidst the state’s debt crisis. He conveyed that ongoing discussions with the central government are in progress to facilitate the implementation of the Silver Line project despite facing financial challenges.

During the presentation of the state budget for the year 2024–25, Minister K. N. Balagopal asserted that the central government is neglecting the progress of Kerala’s railway infrastructure. He maintains this stance despite experts highlighting the environmental issues and the challenges that the people will face from the implementation of the K-Rail project in the state.

Additionally, he also said in the budget presentation that the success of Vande Bharat has enhanced the importance of the Silver Rail initiative.

During the budget presentation, he expressed his willingness to have a discussion regarding the extravagant expenditures of the state government. Additionally, he highlighted that Kerala was being driven into a financial crisis by the impact of both the war and the global economic recession.
