AISF opposes Kerala government’s move to introduce private universities in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The All India Students Federation (AISF), a left-wing student organisation, has also opposed the Kerala government’s proposal to introduce private universities in the field of higher education. AISF has warned to initiate a strike if the government persists with its decision. According to AISF, the move contradicts the stated policies of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and poses a direct challenge to students’ interests.

In the recent budget announcement, the government indicated its stance to allow private investments in higher education and to encourage the establishment of foreign universities in the state. AISF has criticised this stance, citing concerns about the potential consequences for the educational landscape of Kerala. They argued that such measures prioritise commercial interests over educational quality and accessibility.

The Students Federation of India (SFI) had expressed discontent with the budget announcement regarding the potential establishment of foreign university campuses in Kerala. SFI’s state president, K Anushree, expressed concerns about the implications of foreign universities entering the state’s education system. SFI has a history of opposing initiatives aimed at introducing autonomous colleges in Kerala, and Anushree said that their stance remains the same concerning foreign universities.
