Thiruvananthapuram: Bevco, the state-run liquor corporation, is embarking on a new strategy to bolster its finances by replacing paper wraps with ten-rupee cloth bags for alcohol sales. In a bid to alleviate debt woes, Bevco aims to augment its revenue streams by selling pouches alongside liquor.
The decision comes as Bevco discontinues the practice of using paper for wrapping alcohol bottles, opting instead for durable cloth bags, as per the directive of the Beverages Managing Director. Earlier, alcohol purchases were wrapped in paper or supplied in bags provided by Kudumbashree, a women’s self-help group, but this practice has been discontinued.
