Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State President K. Surendran visited former Navy Officer Ragesh Gopakumar, who was recently released from jail in Qatar. Surendran visited Ragesh’s residence at Ilamannurkonam, Thannivila, Balaramapuram, accompanied by Prabhari Prakash Javadekar. VV Rajesh was also present during the visit.
After eighteen months of legal battles, Qatar has agreed to release eight Indian sailors. The eight Indians, previously sentenced to death, were freed by Qatar following strong intervention from the Modi government. Ragesh Gopakumar expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he returned home due to Modi’s intervention.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs maintained constant contact with the Qatari government regarding the incident. The Modi government assured full support and legal assistance to the families of the sailors. Progress in the case began when Qatar accepted India’s appeal. The decisive breakthrough came after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar on December 1.
