Wayanad: The government has declared compensation for the family of Paul, an eco-tourism employee who was killed in a wild elephant attack. The decision was made during a meeting held at Pulpally Gram Panchayat today.
A compensation amounting to Rs. 51 lakh has been sanctioned for Paul’s family. Of this, Rs. 11 lakh, including an insurance amount of Rs. 1 lakh, will be given within the next two days. The panchayat will recommend the government to allocate the remaining Rs. 40 lakh.
Additionally, Paul’s wife will be offered a permanent job and the decision regarding this is expected to be received within ten days. Furthermore, a decision will also be made regarding covering the higher education expenses of Paul’s daughter.
During the meeting, there were widespread demands for the government to take over all the debts of Paul’s family. The meeting was attended by Sultan Bathery MLA I. C. Balakrishnan, Kalpetta MLA T. Siddique, Meenangadi Bishop, and representatives from various political parties.
