Thrissur: Left-wing writer Dr NR Grama Prakash who has been following the left ideologies for more than four decades is still being ignored by the Kerala Government. He is awaiting a response for the issues he raised regarding the Kerala Kalamandalam.
Grama Prakash through his Facebook post criticized the governing body of Kerala Kalamandalam. He stated that Kalamandalam is in a new era under the leadership of Mallika Sarabhai and he has no part in what is happening there.
The term of the governing body of which Grama Prakash was a member ended 4 months ago. After that, there were complaints from many in Kalamandalam including the teachers that they were not getting their salaries.
Grama Prakash wrote, “Band was brought in under the leadership of Mallika Sarabhai keeping the traditional arts away. Early morning ‘Sadhakam’ for students has been eliminated. A lot of people call me to complain about bad choreography.” Grama Prakash stated through Facebook that he is posting his statements to express his non-involvement in any of the issues happening in Kalamandalam recently.
Dr. NR Grama Prakash was the first registrar of Kalamandalam. But then the decision to remove him from the governing body following months of disagreements with the administration including Kalamandalam Vice Chancellor Dr. MV Narayanan had become controversial. The hasty move was made while his tenure as a member of the governing body was about to end in December 2023. Dr. NR Grama Prakash who was also the Chairman of Kalamandalam Development Board was not included even in the Vice-Chancellor selection committee.
Grama Prakash had been continuously writing on social media about irregularities in the Kalamandalam. Many of the posts were insulting to the governing body. There was also accusation that Grama Prakash was behind exposing the information that, the Chancellor, Mallika Sarabhai, who took office saying she did not want a salary, demanded a salary later.
Grama Prakash who was an SFI Leader at Kerala Varma College had worked as a faculty in various S N colleges. He is a writer and also a cultural worker. He has been active in CPI(M) for more than four decades and reached the governing body as the party’s nominee. It was deplorable that in spite of being a staunch leftist, there was no investigation into the matters he had raised.
