Wayanad: The wild elephant Belur Makhna has returned to the human residential area again. According to reports, the elephant crossed the Kabani river and reached Perikkallur. An alert has been issued in Mullankolli Panchayat following this.
Belur Makhna has been confounding the mission team for the past ten days. Last day, the elephant’s signal was detected within a kilometer of the Anapara-Kattikulam-Bavali road. Meanwhile, the fact that the wild elephant did not return from the forest had concerned the authorities. It is at this time that the elephant has returned to the inhabited area.
A team led by Dr. Arun Zakaria has been tracking the elephant based on radio collar signals. The tranquilizing mission started on February 11. The inability to capture the elephant even after ten days has drawn criticism.
