Thiruvananthapuram: Palakkad native Shameera Beevi (36) lost her life due to excessive bleeding following a home birth, as reported by the police. The newborn also died during delivery. Investigations reveal that Shameera’s husband, Nayas, compelled her to opt for a home birth, denying her access to hospital delivery services.
According to authorities, Shihab of Venjarammoodu, operating a clinic in Beema Palli, gave Shameera acupuncture treatment. The police have initiated legal proceedings regarding the unnatural death and are actively pursuing the investigation.
Furthermore, it is alleged that Nayas behaved rudely with health workers, who asked him to take Shameera to a hospital. The couple already has two children. Both were delivered by caesarean section. Nayas opted for acupuncture treatment instead of seeking medical assistance for Shameera’s third pregnancy.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening at Thirumangalam Lane, near Pazhaya Karakkamandapam in Nemom. The couple, residing in a rented house, maintained minimal contact with neighbors. Despite neighbours’ and health workers attempts to intervene, Nayas did not allow Shameera to be taken to a hospital.
The police disclosed that Shameera was Nayas’ second wife. As per reports, Nayas’ son from his first marriage, who is studying acupuncture, was present during the delivery. Police have launched an investigation into all individuals present during the delivery, including Nayas’ son.
