Thiruvananthapuram: Following Kerala’s severe economic crisis, the state Education Department is exploring alternative methods to conduct the SSLC and Plus Two examinations. The department has issued an order to schools, instructing them to use funds allocated for day-to-day expenditures to conduct the examinations.
The order stipulates that the funds will be refunded once the state government releases them. The Examination Secretary Pareeksha Bhavan and the Director of Public Education have written to the Kerala government, requesting permission to withdraw funds from the Personal Deposit Account (PD Account).
In response to the letter, the Kerala government has allowed the General Education Department to gather funds from the PD Accounts in schools to meet the expenses associated with conducting the SSLC and Plus Two examinations.
For the academic year 2022-23, the Kerala state General Education Department owes Rs 44 crore for conducting examinations. This includes Rs 21 crore for the Higher Secondary examination, Rs 11 crore for Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE), and Rs 12 crore for the SSLC-IT examination. Since this amount has not yet been paid, alternative means are being explored to cover the costs of conducting examinations this year.
