Thiruvananthapuram: AirAsia Berhad started its direct service from Thiruvananthapuram to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Mr. Biju Prabhakar IAS, Secretary, Aviation department, Govt. of Kerala, inaugurated the inaugural service. The first flight was received with an escort of ‘Follow Me’ vehicles.
(‘Follow me’ vehicles helps aircraft with limited knowledge of the taxiways at an airport, to go exactly where they need to go with a minimum of confusion. This is especially important at airports with very busy ground controllers and/or complicated taxiway systems.)
AirAsia Berhad to Kuala Lumpur will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. AirAsia Berhad which will be operating the Thiruvananthapuram-Kuala Lumpur service with Airbus 320 aircraft, accommodating 180 passengers, is scheduled to arrive at 11:50 pm and depart at 12:25 am.
It also has connectivity to more than 100 destinations including Australia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
The introduction of this service will address a long-standing demand, particularly from IT companies, for increased connectivity to East Asian countries. This development is expected to boost travel and tourism sectors of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu.
