Kozhikode: A CPI(M) local secretary was hacked to death during a temple festival in Koyilandy. The incident occurred on the premises of Cheriyapuram Temple in Peruvattoor. PV Sathyanathan, the Secretary of Koyilandi Town Central Local Committee, succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital. Reports suggest that Sathyanathan sustained four cuts to his body and was attacked by an intoxicated individual, allegedly with an axe.
Following the incident, a hartal was declared in Koyilandy taluk today, scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm. Abhilash, a former branch committee member of CPI(M), has been apprehended by the police in connection with the attack. Authorities suspect personal animosity as the motive behind the assault. Abhilash, who was in police custody, had previously served as the driver for K Sathyan, the Chairman of Koyilandy Municipal Council. It is reported that Abhilash was accompanied by several others during the attack. The Koyilandy police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
