Wayanad: The Karnataka Forest Department has assured that they will relocate the wild elephant Belur Makhna, that killed a man in Wayanad, deeper into the forest, ensuring it will not venture into Kerala again.

During an inter-state committee meeting held last day, officials from the Karnataka Forest Department assured that they have taken measures to prevent wild elephant from venturing into Kerala territory. Currently, Belur Makhna is situated approximately 4.8 km inside Karnataka’s forest area, and efforts are underway to monitor its movements closely.

The Karnataka Forest Department is conducting night patrols and monitoring Belur Makhna’s activities. Special attention is being given to tracking the elephant’s movements using the signal from its radio collar. Once the wild elephant crosses the river to the Perikallur Marakadavu area, the wild animal will be in the Karnataka forest region. Tranquillizing  the elephant is only possible after it crosses the Kerala border. Tracking expert and sharpshooter Nawab Shafath Ali Khan has been part of the mission team since yesterday.
