Kozhikode: A substantial amount of contraband was seized from Karipur Airport during an inspection conducted by the Customs Preventive Department to prevent smuggling. One person was arrested in connection with the incident.
Customs seized 2.5 kg of gold, 15,800 cigarette sticks, and foreign currency worth Rs 25.4 lakh in various cases. The gold, valued at Rs 1.5 crore in the market, was seized from six passengers arriving from abroad. Additionally, 15,000 packets of Gold Flake brand cigarettes worth Rs 1.88 lakh were seized from another passenger.
In a separate case, 25,000 UK dollars were seized for attempting to smuggle them abroad without sufficient documentation. Gold worth Rs 25.4 lakh in Indian currency was also confiscated. However, according to a news release issued by Customs, only one person was arrested.
