Wayanad: T Jayaprakash, the father of Siddharth, a second-year BVSc (Bachelor of Veterinary Science) student who was found deceased at Pookode Veterinary College in Wayanad, firmly stated that his son Siddharth would not committed suicide. Jayaprakash said that his son had been beaten to death by SFI leaders.
Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the incident, even ten days after it occurred. Twelve students, including the College Union President K Arun, Union Member Asif Khan, and SFI Unit Secretary Amal Iksan, are on the list of accused.
Relatives of Siddharth allege that the police investigation is not efficient. They also claim that the College authorities interfered with the police in the beginning to protect the accused. They also said that the accused are receiving political support.
Siddharth’s father said that on February 18, Siddharth had contacted him over the phone and mentioned that he would visit home to attend the Attukal Temple Pongala celebration. However, two hours later, one of his seniors informed the parents about his death. He added that when they had talked on the phone two hours before the incident, there was no indication of suicide in Siddharth’s conversation.
It is reported that problems erupted on February 14 in connection with Valentine’s Day celebrations at the college. Some of Siddharth’s seniors brutally beat and insulted him publicly for performing a dance with lady senior students. The post-mortem report mentioned injuries to the backbone, head, and various parts of the body.
