Wayanad: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan expressed his condolence on the death of Siddharth, a second-year student at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) at Pookode, Wayanad. The Governor went to Siddharth’s house and consoled his parents. He said it was a tragic incident and informed them that he has sought an explanation from the DGP.
The Governor who is also the Chancellor of State-funded varsities, accused the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) for unleashing violence in Kerala. Speaking to reporters after calling on Sidharth’s family in Thiruvananthapuram, the Governor said, “Such tragic incidents are taking place in Kerala, which is known for its 100 percent literacy. We have lost a brilliant student.”
Referring to the death of TP Chandrasekaran, the Governor said that it is becoming a trend in Kerala that people don’t hesitate to kill those who stand by you.
The Governor also stated political murders are increasing in Kerala. Violence is not the solution to anything. He said SFI activists were ‘aggressors and victims at the same time.’ The Governor emotionally responded that the youth should not be made victims of political war and that the political activists of Kerala should refrain from practicing violence. The youth hardly realize that the party is using them as scapegoats for political ends.
SFI has been caught in a political storm due to the involvement of its members in the suspected death by suicide of JS Sidharth, a second-year student at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) at Pookode in Wayanad district of Kerala on February 18, 2024.
The police have booked the accused for abetment of suicide, voluntarily causing hurt, assault with dangerous weapons, illegal detention, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and under Sections 3 and 4 of the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998. Police said that more arrests are likely to take place in the case. The ABVP, Youth Congress and KSU have announced protests seeking justice for Siddharth.
