Malappuram: Another death due to viral hepatitis has been reported in Malappuram district, raising the death toll to three. The deceased, a 32-year-old resident of Chembankolli in Edakkara, Malappuram, succumbed to jaundice affecting the liver.
The outbreak is particularly rampant in Edakkara and Pothukal panchayats, where approximately 200 cases have been confirmed. Concerned authorities have initiated preventive measures in neighboring areas.
The Health Department emphasizes the importance of vigilance against hepatitis, urging residents to be aware of its symptoms, including fever, vomiting, nausea, jaundice, and yellow urine. Precautionary measures such as drinking only boiled water and maintaining proper hygiene, including handwashing after using toilets, are strongly advised. Additionally, parents are urged to discourage children from playing in muddy water, mud, and garbage to mitigate the spread of the disease.
