Thiruvananthapuram: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Thiruvananthapuram District Committee has organised a 24-hour hunger strike to demand justice for Siddharth, who was found dead at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Wayanad. The hunger strike which started last night around 10 pm, is being held in front of the Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram. The strike which is organised to put forward ABVP’s demand of ‘Justice for Sidharth’ is led by ABVP State Secretary Eswaraprasad, State Joint Secretary Kalyani Chandran and District Secretary Ananthu Muraleedharan.

Talking to Janam English, ABVP State Secretary Eswaraprasad stated that, they strongly feel Siddharth’s death would be overturned for various political reasons. ABVP demanded the removal of Kerala Police from the investigation and demanded the investigation to be handed over to the CBI.

The ABVP demanded that the SFI members and others involved in the brutal attacks on Siddharth be arrested and tried. They demanded the end of monopoly of SFI in all Universities and colleges in Kerala.

The ABVP demanded action against the Dean of the University, Dr. MK Narayanan, for not taking action against the attackers. Dean who is also the warden of the hostel is responsible for any untoward incidents happening inside the hostel. In Siddharth’s incident, Dean is being criticized for not informing the Police or Siddharth’s parents on time. It is reported that the Dean is favouring SFI attackers by providing them security and covering up their violent acts.

Siddharth, the second-year Bachelor of Veterinary Science student, was found dead in the hostel of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University campus in Pookode, Wayanad district. According to police reports, problems erupted on 14th February in connection with Valentine’s Day celebrations at the college. Some of Siddharth’s seniors brutally assaulted him and insulted him publicly for dancing with senior girl students. The assault lasted for three days and on 18th February Siddharth was found dead, hanging inside the hostel bathroom.

Initially, the police had lodged a case of unnatural death. However, according to witnesses, before Siddharth was found dead, he was physically assaulted by his seniors. The post-mortem report revealed that Siddharth was starved for three days and had injuries on his backbone, head, and other parts of his body.

The ABVP who are staging protests across the country demanding Justice for Siddharth stated that if their demands are not met, they will proceed with intense protests.
