Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala faces its worst financial crisis in history while the government continues to spend lavishly. Despite the hardships faced by the people in meeting their daily needs, Finance Minister KN Balagopal is organising a feast today costing Rs 5 lakh for government employees.
The feast is intended for workers from various departments involved in budget preparation, including Finance, Taxation, the GST Commissionerate, and the Government Press. Around 750 people are expected to attend the banquet at the Thycaud Guest House, with about 400 officials from the finance department alone.
Officials from the Joint Secretary and above ranks have been specially invited, and transportation arrangements have been made for their convenience. This extravagant expenditure comes at a time when government employees are facing salary suspensions for four days. Critics argue that such extravagance contributes to the financial woes facing the state.
