Kozhikode: Amid escalating incidents of wildlife attacks in Kerala, there are indications that the charge of the Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department will be transferred to Revenue Minister K Rajan. This shift comes as Forest Minister AK Saseendran is expected to undergo treatment for health issues.
In the past two days alone, Kerala has witnessed three deaths resulting from attacks by wild animals. Today, in Kozhikode, a farmer named Palatt Abraham (70) fell victim to a fatal attack by a wild buffalo. Similarly, on Tuesday afternoon, a 68-year-old tribal woman named Valsa, wife of local tribal chief Rajan, from the Vachumaram area, was attacked by a wild elephant near Athirappally while collecting forest products.
In another incident, a woman identified as Indira (72) lost her life in a wild elephant attack in Neriamangalam last day. The incident sparked outrage, leading to protests in Kothamangalam, where demonstrators expressed their grievances. However, the police intervention in quelling the protests has drawn widespread criticism.
