Thrissur: Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of Congress stalwart and former Kerala Chief Minister K Karunakaran, has removed all traces of her affiliation with Congress from her social media profiles ahead of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Padmaja Venugopal took down any references to the Congress from her Facebook profile and replaced it with the description “Indian politician from Kerala.” She is scheduled to visit the BJP National Headquarters today to accept her membership.

Padmaja turned down persuasive efforts, including those from KC Venugopal. Her decision to join the BJP serves as a protest against the long-standing neglect of the Congress. Padmaja engaged in discussions with national leaders of the BJP last day.

Padmaja Venugopal has consistently voiced her opposition to the dominance of the Muslim League over the Congress and the passive stance adopted by Congress leaders towards it. Her discontent has been expressed on numerous occasions. The decision of Congress veteran Karunakaran’s daughter has dealt a severe blow to the Congress, leaving it in a state of turmoil.
