ABVP’s protests for Siddharth pays off; Government agrees to CBI investigation

Thiruvananthapuram: The persistent protests led by the ABVP have yielded results as the government has now agreed to hand over the case to the CBI. In response to the demands from both Siddharth’s parents and ABVP, the Kerala government has agreed to order a CBI investigation into the death of JS Siddharth, a second-year student at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University hostel in Pookode.

Following a meeting between Siddharth’s father and the Chief Minister, the government has issued an order to transfer the case to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation). The Chief Minister’s initial reluctance to engage with Siddharth’s parents and his silence on the matter had sparked widespread criticism.

ABVP and other student organizations had staged protests demanding justice for Siddharth. Criticism was directed at the government, including during the Left Front meeting held yesterday. Concerns about potential electoral setbacks have seemingly prompted the government’s decision to hand over the case to the CBI. The family’s prolonged struggle to secure justice for Siddharth, compounded by alleged police negligence, has ultimately led to the government’s decision to transfer the case to CBI.

In a statement to the media this morning, Siddharth’s father implicated the Dean and Assistant Warden in the case, alleging their involvement. He insisted that murder charges be filed against both individuals, advocating for their dismissal from service. Siddharth’s father also implicated Akshay, Siddharth’s classmate, stating that Akshay should be considered an accused rather than a mere witness in the case.
