Kochi: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is not anti-Muslim.
The Governor said that CAA is a guarantee given to people ages ago and that the law is not against any people. The Governor’s response was after the CAA came into effect.
At the same time, the Pinarayi government’s stand is that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will not be implemented in Kerala. According to the government of Kerala, CAA is a law aimed at driving away the Muslim population of the society.
They claimed that CAA is a communal division law and will project the Muslim minorities as second-class citizens of the nation. They asserted that Kerala will stand united in opposing the implementation of CAA.
The Union home ministry on Monday notified the rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), over four years after Parliament passed the law, to fast-track the citizenship process for non-Muslims, who have entered India from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014.
