Thiruvananthapuram: A team of experts, led by the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries (CICEF), arrived at Pozhiyoor. This follows Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s personal assurance that a central team would promptly address issues in the coastal region. Among the experts who visited Pozhiyoor were the Central Fisheries Director Venkateswara Prasad and Deputy Director Nagaraj.
Previously, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar had visited Pozhiyoor to assess the coastal region’s problems. He assured residents that a team of experts would arrive to address infrastructure issues, including employment and housing.
The expert team, led by CICEF, directly engaged with fishermen in the Pozhiyoor region to gather information. The Director of Fisheries will prepare a comprehensive report on key infrastructure development issues along the coast. Remedial measures will follow this report. In Kerala, the south coast is particularly affected during the monsoon season, with coastal erosion being a major concern. The state government has yet to intervene in this matter. The central team emphasized the importance of finding solutions to coastal and sea erosion and pledged to protect coastal communities.
