Thiruvananthapuram: Today, a yellow alert has been issued across nine districts in Kerala as temperatures continue to rise. Palakkad, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur are all under the alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that temperatures could soar close to 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and Kollam from March 13 to 17.
Pathanamthitta and Kottayam are expected to experience highs of 38 degrees Celsius, while Thrissur may reach 37 degrees Celsius. Additionally, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur could see temperatures rise to 36 degrees Celsius. With the heatwave intensifying, authorities are urging caution against heat-related illnesses.
The Disaster Management Authority has issued warnings about the increased risk of heat-borne diseases and discomfort. Direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm can lead to sunburn, they cautioned, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fresh water to prevent dehydration.
