Thiruvananthapuram: The rice previously provided to consumers at subsidized rates by SupplyCo is now being rebranded as K-Rice. The Sabari – K Rice brand exhibits a notable price difference as the rice is packaged in cloth bags. Jaya rice is now priced at Rs. 29 per kilogram, while Kurua and Matta rice are priced at Rs. 30 per kilogram. This represents an increase of approximately Rs. 4 per kilogram compared to the subsidized rates previously offered for rice. Customers were previously receiving 10 kilograms of rice twice a month at a rate of Rs. 25.
The packing work for K-Rice is currently underway. Due to the financial crisis, many employees who have not received their salaries have quit their jobs, which has badly affected the packing process.
Meanwhile, K-Rice has not yet reached a sufficient level to be provided to consumers at the depots. SupplyCo employees are also concerned about the rice supply, primarily due to its shortage. Furthermore, consumers demand that subsidized rice should continue to be provided instead of K-Rice.
