Thrissur: Actor Suresh Gopi has fulfilled his promise to the transgender community by providing financial assistance for gender reassignment surgery. It all began during the Kerala Piravi Day (November 1) celebrations organized by the AMMA star organization when actor Suresh Gopi pledged to offer financial support for gender reassignment surgery, announcing that 10 individuals would benefit from this assistance. True to his word, Suresh Gopi donated Rs 12 lakhs towards the cause, demonstrating his commitment to helping the transgender community.
The financial assistance was handed over during a ceremony held at a house in Nettissery, Thrissur. Ten individuals are undergoing surgery in the first stage, with Rs 1,20,000 allocated per person. Anisha, Mikha, Venus Paul, Shravantika, Gopika, Preethi, Abhirami, Rena, Tina Elsa, and Adrija will undergo surgery in the first phase.
Later, the funds for the surgery will be reimbursed by the government. However, there might be a delay of up to a year for the reimbursement process. Additionally, he has suggested that the next ten individuals undergo gender reassignment surgery, with expenses covered by the reimbursement. Gender reassignment surgery is conducted at Amrita Hospital, Edappally.
