Kozhikode: Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama has demanded that the date of the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala be changed from April 26 (Friday). They argue that Friday is a sacred day for them, and Friday afternoon is the time when Muslims have to pray Jumu’ah.
The Friday prayer should be performed by all the people of an area. Hence, holding the election on April 26 (Friday) will create a lot of difficulties for Muslim voters and the officials deputed for election duty. This will also affect the polling.
Citing this, Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama President Muhammad Jifri Muthukkoya and General Secretary K Ali Kutty Musliyar have requested the Election Commission of India to consider this immediately and take action.
It is also reported that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Kerala has also made the same request to the Election Commission, asking for the postponement of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26. They cite the significance of Friday as a sacred day for the Muslim community.
