Idukki: CPI(M) members attempted to disrupt the ‘Janasabha’ – a public TV show organized by Janam TV on politics – held in Idukki district. With the upcoming Lok Sabha election approaching, audiences from various groups are showing keen interest in the programme, both in watching and attending, as it is being organized by Janam TV at several locations of Kerala.
The attack occurred last night at the Kattappana bus stand, during which the NDA representative for the programme, Sreena Giri Rajan, was assaulted. While the debate programme was underway, Sreena Giri Rajan asked, ‘Do you know Pushpan?’ Upon hearing this statement, CPI(M) members became angry and immediately threw chairs at him, leading to disputes and physical altercations.
Even though the programme coordinators tried to calm them down, CPI(M) leaders violently threw chairs and disrupted the TV show. Initially, healthy discussions were held during the first phase of the TV show, focusing on the developments in Idukki district. Later, participants discussed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), but several arguments erupted among CPI(M) members, with some activists behaving violently.
Following the remark made by the NDA representative, ‘Do you know Pushpan?’, CPI(M) activists became agitated, resulting in a physical attack. Chairs were thrown at Sreena Giri Rajan and the TV show by CPI(M) representatives.
Followed by protests against CPI(M)’s violence during the Janasabha and against the NDA representative are intensifying. In response to the attack on the NDA representative, the BJP is staging a protest today at Kattappana bus stand.
The participants in the debate program included Sreena Giri Rajan for NDA, Joy Vettikuzhi for UDF, and BR Saji for LDF. Anil Nambiar, program chief at Janam TV, moderated the debate.
Pushpan, a DYFI worker, was paralyzed in the 1994 police firing at Koothuparamba while protesting against granting government quota seats to college managements. However, the current policies of the Pinarayi government contradict their 1994’s protest, leading to various criticisms and mockery, including questioning the government’s rule with the troll statement, ‘Do you know Pushpan?’
