Paris: The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has finally realized that unrestricted immigration is a threat to France and also to his election prospects. Macron has called for more tougher stand against immigration because he realizes that being lax could only end up helping the far right party in the coming elections in France.
Emmanuel Macron said that his centrist party Republic on the Move (LREM) might be considered as ‘bourgeois’ until the problem of immigration is addressed.
Macron said that by being humanist the party was being too laxist and that certain people were misusing the French asylum laws. The LREM has not made any presence in small towns and in the rural areas of France, which could be a problem during election.
He said, “The bourgeois have no problem with that (immigration). They don’t come up against it. The working classes live with it. For decades the left didn’t want to deal with this problem so the working class migrated to the far-right.”
Macron’s main concern is the far-right party National Rally and its leader Marie Le Pen, who has made a steady rise in French politics. She accused Macron for using the immigration and asylum seeking issue to get elected in the French Presidential election in 2022.
